Sew Diva 1 Welcomes You
The Diva behind Sew Diva 1…Angela Harrington

My background and experience with successfully completing a wide variety of projects has made me diverse and unintimidated when I receive requests from Clients.  That is why I can confidently ensure my Clients they will receive the best quality and service.  Sew Diva 1 is built on a foundation of honesty, integrity and hard work.

It is a blessing to share my God given talents and gifts with my Clients and assist them with being creative.  It is something that I have grown to appreciate more and never take for granted.

My ultimate goal in life is to be like the Proverbs 31 woman who loves the Lord, loves her family, is blessed and uses her gifts and talents for good as God intended for her.  My mission is to encourage others to do the same.

I began sewing in 6th grade.  I received my first sewing machine from my Grandmother for my birthday.  I started making all of my own clothing which everyone seemed to love.  I did not like store patterns so I created a lot of my own.  In High School I attended Vocation Training for Commercial Sewing and Design. Our instructor Ann Tucci taught us everything that she could and kept us under her wings.  During the training I competed in the State of Arizona Industrial Sewing competition, placed first and took home the State Championship.

After High School I received lots of requests for custom sewing so I continually took on a variety of projects.  I have worked for Clothing manufacturers, Bridal, Tailoring, Alterations and Fabric companies to increase my knowledge in the industry.  I also worked at a variety of Retail Stores where I learned gained experience in Sales, Merchandising and Buying.  I also studied Business, Pattern Making and Tailoring courses at Harper College in Schaumburg, Illinois.  What I did not learn from school and jobs I had to teach myself.  The demand for sewing grew so much that I officially no longer considered it a hobby.  It had turned into a Custom Sewing and Alterations business.

I also conducted Fashion Shows where I presented my designs, participated in local trade and craft shows and eventually decided to open a small boutique in Schaumburg, IL to showcase my designs and meet Clients.  Eventually the Fashion craze slowed down.

I decided to accept an offer at a major credit card company.  I relocated with my job from Chicago back to Arizona in 2000. I still moonlighted and began receiving multiple requests for Draperies, Pillows, accessories and light upholstery. Since there was nothing that intimidated me I decided to take on these type of projects and found that I loved them just as much as Fashion.  I got laid off from the credit card company so I continued to sew full time for one year until I received an offer at a major Insurance company where I became licensed in 50 states. (Talk about stress).  I stopped sewing and focused solely on my Insurance profession and starting a family.  For several years I felt unfulfilled in my career not to mention very stressed.  My love for design and being creative, need for more time and flexibility to be with my children and family and need for less stress has drew me back to the being an entrepreneur this time for life.  I made a major decision to let my “job security” go (if there is such a thing) and pick up where I left off.  I have been pursuing my dream on a full time basis under my new name Sew Diva 1.

Never let weeds grow around your dreams.  If you love what you do you will never work another day in your life.

I had these two affirmations posted in my office cubicle for years to remind me to never give up on my dreams and that God truly does want us to use our gifts, talents and abilities to the fullest.
